Welcome to the Inner Banks of North Carolina
Black Rock property owners enjoy numerous benefits, such as the following:
As a self-governed Home Owners Association, property owners enjoy controlling their own destiny without Developer interference. Annual assessments are kept low in large part due to not having burdensome costs to maintain costly amenities – club houses, swimming pools, golf courses, etc. Black Rock offers owners a well-groomed community; a relaxing and quite neighborhood – at low annual cost.
Every lot owner enjoys access to the Chowan River via community owned common area property. The water access area provides an area for swimming, fishing and observing water activity. The Chowan River is unique by having a sandy bottom.
Lots are elevated with beautiful views of the Chowan River and its convergence with the Albemarle Sound. The elevated lots of Black Rock make the community highly desirable since flood insurance is not required. The majority of lots are one acre is size, providing owners much appreciated space with their neighbors.
The community is supported by basic utility services. Roanoke Electric Cooperative (REC) provides electricity. Century Link provides telephone and internet services. Local cable companies provide television and internet services. Bertie County provides county water services. DISH and DirectTV provide satellite services.
Since we are a relatively small community, our owners enjoy the relaxed environment – far away from the noise and congestion of city life. With minimal street traffic owners enjoy walking or riding bicycles on routes up to five miles.
Located just ten (10) minutes from Edenton, NC, our community is an hour away from Virginia Beach, Virginia; Greenville, NC and the Outer Bank beaches of North Carolina. Raleigh, NC is two hours away. Both Norfolk and Raleigh serve the community with air travel. Carnival Cruise Line operates out of the Port of Norfolk providing various cruise options.
Golf. At least five golf courses are within a 40 minute drive.
Boat access. Directly across the river within a 5 minute drive is a state maintained public boat launch facility. The boat launch area was completely renovated in 2010 with paved parking areas, fishing pier and restrooms. All areas are under lights.
Our main entrance is off of US Highway 17, a major highway running from Florida to Virginia providing an alternative to Interstate Highway 95.
Interstate 87. The newly proposed Interstate 87, which will link the Norfolk, VA area with a direct route to Raleigh, NC remains under development. The new highway will run through our area and will likely lead to additional business development and residential opportunities. The project may take 10-20 years to be completely finished. Bertie County has consulted with NCDOT about the feasibility of installing a Welcome Center and Rest Area in the Salmon Creek area.
New State Park. Bertie County purchased 137 acres in close proximity to our community in 2016. The waterfront property on the Albemarle Sound will provide public water access for recreation and tourism. In 2017 the property was included in a new State Park designation, known as the Salmon Creek Recreation Area. Currently the proposed recreation area consists of nearly 1000 acres.
