Welcome to the Inner Banks of North Carolina
Each December, this program remembers and honors military veterans by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as at more than 2700 additional locations in all 50 U.S. states, at sea and abroad.
The Black Rock Community is a major group sponsor for the two principal Bertie County cemeteries located at Edgewood and Hillcrest cemetery, both located in nearby Windsor, NC. In 2021, Sharon Rome and John Davis assumed responsibility to coordinate the county wide effort. 273 wreaths were purchased in 2021 via donations and placed at the two local cemeteries.
Black Rock Community members contribute to the purchase of wreaths for placement at one of 480 veteran plots. In 2021, our community purchased 172 wreaths.
Community members contribute to the purchase of wreaths for placement at one of 480 veteran plots. Our group is recorded as Black Rock Community (NC0349). One wreath cost $15. WAA has offered our group the option to receive a third free wreath for every two wreaths sponsored.

The Good Shepherd Food Pantry fights hunger and poverty in Bertie County. In 2021, the program distributed over 300,000 pounds of food.
The Black Rock community seeks donations to the program each year starting in early September. In 2021, the community provided $1670 in cash which was used to purchase food.
